Wing It and Wag It

Last year, I was lucky enough to take part in the 100-year anniversary of the first circumnavigation of Australia by seaplane. We only flew from Adelaide around the west coast to Darwin, a few months later we were driving home one night and I thought "wouldn’t it be funny if i flew around australia solo". I didn't think of it again until the begining of this year, when I was able to go for a fly in a red Foxbat at Redcliffe in Queensland.

From there I was hooked and worked towards getting my pilots licence, starting with Bill and Heather Haynes in Caboolture Queensland. Bill did my initial training and sent me solo the day after my 15th birthday.

Work then took us to Tocumwal where I did my A and B Gliding licence at theTocumwal Flying Centre with Lumpy, Ian and Peter.

Work then took us back to Darwin where Kane Mattsson trained and issued me an RAAUS licience at NT Flight Training which operates from an airstrip just out of Darwin called Emkaytee (MKT).

On the 7th of September 2025, I departed MKT airstrip, flew past Darwin and headed West to circumnavigate the coastline of Australia in a Super Petrel LS seaplane.

The journey will take around four weeks, tracing the full coastline of Australia travelling anti-clockwise over water — from Darwin across the Top End then south along the massive shore line of Western Australia, turning East and following the sparse Great Australian Bight shared between Western Australia and South Australia, From South Australia to Victoria, around Tasmania, back to Victoria flying Eastwards until turning Northwards up the east coast of New South Wales, continuing up along the coast of Queensland to the Torres Straight and Horn Island. From Horn Island I’ll head Southward down the West Coast of Queensland into the Gulf of Carpentaria then North West back to the Northern Territory and my home town of Darwin.

I would like to thank all those people who have given their time and support to help make this dream a reality. From the flying training, to the long hours and late nights working back in the hangar, the advice, the guidance and the encouragement from people who believe I can do it. Without all of you wonderful people, this trip would not be possible. THANK YOU. 💕

I’ve called this journey Wing It and Wag It, as I will “Wing it” and my Co-Pup Bella will “Wag it”.

Please join Bella and I on this exciting adventure.
